A BILL FOR A LAW TO AMEND THE CADET CORPS LAW (2016 REVISION) TO REMOVE THE EXISTING TERM LIMIT FOR THE POSITION OF CHAIRMAN OF THE CADET CORPS COMMITTEE; TO CHANGE THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR APPOINTMENTS IN RELATION TO THE CADET CORPS COMMITTEE FROM THE GOVERNOR TO CABINET; AND FOR INCIDENTAL AND CONNECTED MATTERS

MEMORANDUM OF OBJECTS AND REASONS

This Bill seeks to amend the Cadet Corps Law (2016 Revision) to remove the existing term limit for the position of Chairman of the Cadet Corps Committee. It also seeks to change the responsibility for the appointment of the Cadet Corps Committee from the Governor to the Cabinet.

ENACTED by the Legislature of the Cayman Islands. This Law may be cited as the Cadet Corps (Amendment) Law, 2018. The Cadet Corps Law (2016 Revision), is amended in section 28, by deleting the word “Governor” wherever it appears and substituting the word “Cabinet”. The Cadet Corps Law (2016 Revision), is amended in section 29 - (a) in the marginal note by inserting after the word “Committee” the word “member”; and Short title Amendment of section 28 of the Cadet Corps Law (2016 Revision) – composition of Committee Amendment of section 29 of the Cadet Corps Law (2016 Revision) – term of office of Committee

(b) by deleting the words “of the Committee shall be three years, except that the Chairman shall vacate his office at the end of three years from his appointment as Chairman.” and substituting the words “of each member of the Committee shall be up to three years and each member shall be eligible for reappointment.”.
