Objects and Reasons

Memorandum of OBJECTS AND REASONS This Bill amends the Customs and Border Control Law, 2018 to provide for the giving of directions by Cabinet to the Director of Customs and Border Control. Clause 1 provides the short title of the legislation. Clause 2 amends the Customs and Border Control Law, 2018 by inserting after section 11, a new proposed section 11A in the Law. The proposed section 11A provides that the Cabinet may give to the Director such directions as the Cabinet thinks fit as to the performance of the functions of Customs and Border Control and the exercise of its powers, and the Director shall give effect to any such directions.

CUSTOMS AND BORDER CONTROL (AMENDMENT) BILL, 2020

A BILL FOR A LAW TO AMEND THE CUSTOMS AND BORDER CONTROL LAW, 2018; AND FOR INCIDENTAL AND CONNECTED PURPOSES ENACTED by the Legislature of the Cayman Islands. Short title This Law may be cited as the Customs and Border Control (Amendment) Law, 2020.

Clause 2

Insertion of new section 11A- directions by Cabinet The Customs and Border Control Law, 2018 is amended by inserting after section 11 the following section —

“Directions by Cabinet 11A. The Cabinet may give to the Director such directions as the Cabinet thinks fit as to the performance of the functions of Customs and Border Control and the exercise of its powers, and the Director shall give effect to any such directions.”.
